Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about selling your phone through sellmobilephones.com — from getting a quote to receiving payment.
Getting a Quote
How do I get a quote for my phone?
Search for your phone model using the search bar on our homepage or the Devices page. Select your storage tier and condition grade, and we'll show you live quotes from our vetted recycler panel.
Are the prices shown guaranteed?
The prices shown are live quotes from our recycler partners' current price feeds. They are subject to the recycler's inspection of your phone — if the condition matches what you declared, the quoted price is what you'll receive.
Why does the same phone have different prices from different recyclers?
Each recycler sets their own prices based on their stock requirements, refurbishment capacity, and sales channels. Comparing multiple offers is the best way to get the strongest price for your device.
How often do prices change?
Prices are refreshed multiple times throughout the day from our recycler partners' live feeds. Always compare at the point you're ready to sell, rather than relying on a quote from a previous visit.
My phone isn't listed — can I still sell it?
If your model doesn't appear in our search, it may not be in our recycler partners' current price feeds. Contact us and we'll let you know if we can add it.
Condition and Grading
How do I know what condition grade to select?
Check your phone in good lighting at multiple angles. Excellent means virtually no signs of use; Good means light surface scratches visible only under close inspection; Poor means visible wear but fully functional; Faulty means a fault affecting normal use.
Full condition grading guide →What happens if I overstate my phone's condition?
The recycler will assess the phone on arrival and may make a revised, lower offer if the condition doesn't match your declared grade. You can accept the revised price or have the phone returned.
Revised offers explained →Can I sell a phone with a cracked screen?
Yes. Select Faulty when comparing to get an accurate quote for a damaged device. Most recyclers accept cracked screens.
Selling a broken phone →Does battery health affect my quote?
Some recyclers factor battery health into their grading. An iPhone with battery health below 80%, or a Samsung with abnormal battery diagnostics, may receive a lower offer from some buyers.
Sending Your Phone
Is postage free?
Most recyclers provide a free prepaid postage label. Check the individual recycler's terms shown during checkout.
How postage works →Do I need to prepare my phone before sending?
Yes. Remove your SIM card and memory card, sign out of your Apple ID or Google account, and factory reset the phone before sending.
Factory reset guide →What if my phone is lost in the post?
If you used the recycler's prepaid label and have a proof of postage, the recycler's transit arrangements should apply. Always get a proof of postage receipt when sending.
Do I need to include the original box?
Most recyclers only require the handset. Some offer a small premium for the original box. Check the recycler's instructions in your order confirmation.
Payment
How long does it take to get paid?
Most recyclers pay within 1–5 working days of receiving and inspecting your phone. Add postage time — typically 2–4 working days — for the total expected wait from sending to payment.
Payment timelines explained →How will I be paid?
Payment method options vary by recycler. Bank transfer (BACS), PayPal, and cheque are the most common. Select your preferred method during checkout.
Is sellmobilephones.com free to use?
Yes. The service is completely free. We earn a commission from recyclers when a sale is completed — not from you.
What if I haven't been paid after a week?
First check whether your phone has been delivered using parcel tracking. If it has arrived and you haven't been paid, contact the recycler directly using the details in your order confirmation.
Data Security
Is my data safe when I sell my phone?
Yes, provided you remove your Apple ID or Google account and factory reset before sending. A correctly completed reset removes all personal data from the device.
